you must make sure that your dog is calm before you even show put the leash on her and make sure that you are always the first to leave the door, not her.

I have an Alaskan Malamute who pulls me to no end when walking, and I can figure out how to break her of this. Ive tried everything! Any pointers on how I can break her of this? It seems her attention is on everything but me when we are out.

A dog does need to learn to walk by your side with a loose leash. My dog pulled at the beginning, what worked best for us was stopping and making him sit or at least stand still every time he pulled, it takes a lot of patience but eventually works really well even with a buckled collar. Gentle leaders also are a great tool; they work a lot better than choker collars, having used both now.

I am planning on getting a pair of Pugs soon and that video made me laugh. I got a black couch and I know a fawn will show up all over it. Thanks for the tips.

My dogs would tear up the vacuum cleaner if I did that to them! As for loose leash walking. I`ll try it because I can`t manage our puppy anymore. He has become too big and too strong for me.

TanDude – when you tell him too! All of the dogs I walk in my job are trained to always walk next to me, however, if I feel that they have been walking consistently well for 15 – 20 minutes, then all I have to do is talk to my dog, make eye contact and show him the grass/trees/hedge e.t.c, to let him know that he now has time to sniff, explore and relief himself. By teaching a command for walking close to you, it is then easy to call your dog back when you want to resume walking.

thanks for the videos. even with puppy training classes, it’s nice to have clarification from others. my puppy still doesn’t like his leash and lays flat, but we’re working on it. Thanks!

I have a 15wk old pitbull who’s naturally a great leash walker, but I want him fine tuned so that when he’s 80+lbs he’s still a gentle dog who doesn’t pull me, 105lbs. I’m gonna walk him RIGHT NOW see how it goes! Thanks again I subscribed for future vids! Thanks

I’ve been doing R+ training with my dogs forever, and loose leash walking was the one thing Miss Cleo and I could never manage. I like the pull-back/release tension practice tip. It’s really helped.
